Miscellaneous marvels

This page is devoted to a marvellous miscellany of ideas great and small. Some became grown-up. fully-fledged experiences, whilst others never made it off the page. Either way, this is their time to shine.

A big apple lands in the Big Apple

We created an urban apple orchard in the heart Big Apple and in the height of apple-picking season for the PR launch of King’s mobile game, Farm Heroes Super Saga. Picture the scene: a gigantic apple ‘cropsy’ beams adorably in the centre of a New York park. Step inside into a multisensory apple orchard (complete with hay bales). Pluck a cute fruit from a gigantic apple tree. Get three friends to hug one at the same time to create a ‘super cropsy’ moment, triggering a shift in the immersive, 360 degree projection on the inside of the dome. This was my first outing as a CD, joining the project when this was all but a two-page concept and nurturing it into the cute and playful fever-dream it ultimately became.

A nostalgic olfactory paradise

I was drafted in to help come up with some curious activations for Google’s Curiosity Rooms: an experiential extravaganza hosted in an abandoned warehouse in the bowels of Selfridges, designed to showcase the power of the Pixel 2. This is my favourite contribution - an elegant perfumery in which guests can mix the scent of a childhood memory from dozens of samples and bottles, all with the gentle help of an expert parfumier.

It’s football, but not as we know it

Football. It’s just 22 people kicking a ball about. Except - what if it isn’t? What if it there were two balls? Or three? What if the goal went for a wander, and ended up somewhere along the halfway line? What if you could turbocharge your team with extra players? This was the premise of Nightball: an urban reimagining of five-a-side football as you’ve never seen it before, all to celebrate Chevrolet’s partnership with Manchester United.

Cooking with Grolnak

We pitched Azeroth L!VE to Blizzard for a World of Warcraft roadshow - a live chatshow that took place on the main stage with scripted content and pre-recorded segments designed to broaden guests’ understanding of the world. One of the segments was ‘Cooking with Grolnak’ - in which Grolnak provides tips on how to make culinary delights from vanquished foes. In the pitch I acted out all of the segments personally, including this little number, much to the surprise of my MD. Sadly the client ultimately cancelled the roadshow, but the memory of Grolnak lives on. FOR THE HORDE!

Sculpting an Ice Palace
out of cardboard

Once Upon a Time I was working on a Christmas Fair for a client, and sketched out and designed a geometric Ice Palace made from Re-board as a centrepiece. Working with a 3D designer based thousands of miles away, I compiled pages of notes, revisions and lighting recommendations after every render. The client loved it - but sadly it never made it into full production. But here, in this twilit place, its radiance can finally be revealed.
