Port Ellen
Gemini

A groundbreaking data visualisation to bring Port Ellen Out of the Ether, Into the Light .

Port Ellen is one of Scotland’s most revered and sought-after makers of Scotch - a ‘ghost’ distillery that, in 2023, reopened its doors with the release of Gemini: a singular liquid that was ‘split’ after decades of maturation to be finished in two separate casks.

To commemorate both the reopening of distillery and the release of Gemini, we created a new chapter in the brand’s story that celebrated the rekindling of the fabled light of Islay: Out of the Ether, Into the Light.

At its heart was the creation of a unique and gorgeous data visualisation and storytelling asset that used liquid & gas chromatography to measure the compounds in Gemini after the liquid diverged - creating a comparative data set that showed the unique characteristics of the two twins. This was beautifully turned into a synesthetic map and work of art by our partners, Bose Collins.

I was responsible for the creative concept and strategic and creative development of the piece - working with our clients at Diageo Rare and Exceptional to ensure the work appealed to the brand’s core audience whilst also meeting a new generation of luxury connoisseurs. The final, multi-purpose asset premiered at the reopening of the distillery and also existed as a standalone installation for private clients. It was also deployed extensively across socials.
